The Alzheimer’s Association of America has released its comprehensive study on Alzheimers.  Here are just a few of the facts

  • 1 – 3 seniors dies with Alzheimers or another dementia
  • Out of pocket expenses for long distance caregivers are newarly twice as much as local caregivers
  • In 2012 15.4 million caregivers provided an estimated 17.5 billion hours of unpaid care, valued at more than $216 billion.
  • Alzheimers disease is the sixth leading cause of death
  • In 2013 direct cost of care for Alzheimers/dementia will be $203 billion including $142 billion in costs to MEdicare and Medicaid.
  • Texas alone by 2020 will have an esitamted 400,000 people in Alzheimers/dementia care which is a 48% increase from 2000.
